About Joe Pernice

Joe Pernice is one of the most interesting figures to emerge from the American indie pop scene since the 1990s, a master of smart, beautifully crafted pop songs with intelligent, introspective lyrics and a darkly witty undertow that dovetails with his superb melodic sense. He first gained recognition as part of the downbeat alt-country act the Scud Mountain Boys, who reached their peak in the recording studio on 1996's Massachusetts. His pop sensibilities took center stage in the Pernice Brothers, whose blend of sunny and shadowy moods is best appreciated on 1998's Overcome by Happiness, 2001's The World Won't End and 2003's Yours, Mine & Ours; he revived the group for 2024's Who Will You Believe. After a period away from music, Pernice re-emerged with a handful of outstanding solo efforts, including 2020's Richard and Could It be Magic, and 2026's Sunny, I Was Wrong.
