About Simpleton Mok
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. At an early age my mother used to play a lot of Judith Sephuma; my father a lot of George Michael and Don Williams; my sister played a lot of Neo Soul which has a bigger influence on me more than any other genre and my brother a lot of Deep house. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Black Coffee, Home Brewed Black Motion, Ya Badimo Uhuru, Our Father Black Motion, DJ Maphorisa are the people that really inspire me a lot because they are the first people I saw that are from where I'm from be successful in music. Black Coffee is the phenomenon that DJ'd with one hand. That still impresses me today. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Shubi, Enroute Tanzania (feat. Saint Riego)” It is the epitome of "Pretoria" from how it sounds sonically to the lyrics and this makes me very proud because of the sense of pride I have in where I am from (Soshanguve) and how even that is through-and-through a Pretoria thing. An ode to my city. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Nothing will ever be bigger than connecting with people that can relate to and appreciate the art. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? There are a lot of things I wish to do but being successful within the international Festival Circuit along with collaborating with all my favourite artists and brands is definitely up there at the top of things I want to do - reaching icon status.
