Peter Somuah

Peter Somuah is a composer, trumpeter, and vocalist from Ghana. Based in the Netherlands, his playing is notable for its command of the modernist jazz vocabulary as well as a warm, bell-like sound that reflects a commingling of his influences Miles Davis and Roy Hargrove, with the lyricism of the late Harry Beckett. A keen improviser, Soumah's musical signature joins modern and post-bop jazz harmony to funk and Ghanaian polyrhythms sometimes caressed by minimal electronics. His debut album, Outer Space, appeared in 2022. He followed with the globally acclaimed Letter to the Universe in 2023 and Highlife in 2024.
