Yago Vazquez

About Yago Vazquez

The Spanish jazz pianist Yago Vázquez spent much of the 2010s and 2020s establishing himself as a key player on the Brooklyn, New York scene. In 2010, he graduated with honors from the city’s New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. 2011’s Chorale was his first album as a leader and he later joined the Rodrigo Recabarren-instigated Beekman. Around this time, he helped create two albums -- Stream and Second Stream -- alongside Scott Lee and Jeff Hirshfield, while also working with Brooklyn Aliens and Tobias Meinhart. The complex, avant-garde-sounding Desde la Lluvia -- his first trio album alongside Recabarren and Pablo Menares -- was released in early 2017. In 2018, he was featured on the Pablo Castaño Quartet's A-la-láa before picking up the Martin Codax Award for jazz artist of the year. Familia, a second trio album with Recabarren and Menares, eventually saw the light of day in early 2024.
