In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Sitting on my sister’s knee at the piano as she played and we sang together. Her long nails tapped the keys. I treasure this memory as she now has early onset dementia and no longer knows how to play, though she remains fun and positive. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Bamboo Bamboo” In my parent’s farmhouse, I managed a wild stand of bamboo. We harvested shoots for local Asian groceries and temples, building connections in the community. Inspired by bamboo’s strength, I wrote it celebrating the fastest-growing plant on Earth. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Winning BEST NZ CHILDREN’S ALBUM for the third time was a proud moment. When I started, there weren’t many making kids’ music in NZ, but now, with support and funding, Kiwi kids’ artists are thriving. We’ve come so far, and the future looks bright! Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I think it’s time to go get a bigger bucket right now!
