The lovably deranged GWAR amassed a ton of far-out influences while developing their splatter-soaked mixture of heavy metal, punk and hard rock in the late ’80s. The darkly surreal experimentation of B******e Surfers and Mr. Bungle certainly informed GWAR’s transgressive subject matter and vulgar theatrics. Fast and catchy punks like the Ramones and All also played big roles, instilling in these scumdogs a love of ripping guitars and hooks.
