In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. One of my earliest memories is when I was a child living in Tokyo, Japan. We would play Japanese Pop music. I remember singing along and releasing that, while the melody was catchy and the song made me really happy, I did not understand the lyrics! What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Kronos Quartet, Crumb: Black Angels Toru Takemitsu, Ran (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) my bloody valentine, Loveless I deeply love these albums. They all scared or unnerved me when I first heard them while leaving deep impressions about how unorthodox instrumental and vocal colours could be explored and utilised in different musical forms and contexts. Tell us why you chose this song. “Helm Hammerhand Still Stands” I loved writing this emotionally intense cue as part of the score to 'The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim. When I first played it for the director, Kenji Kamiyama, he cried out 'That was AMAZING!!'. That was a good day. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Composing the score for Kenji Kamiyama's animated feature film 'The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim' was a highlight. Winning an Emmy for the work that we did on 'The Beatles: Get Back' was great! Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I would very much love to write the score for a large science fiction project.
