Whether as a competitive swimmer, pop singer, Broadway actor or reality TV star, Cody Simpson has been firmly in the public eye since age 13. That’s when he debuted with 2010’s “iYiYi”, a squeaky-clean earworm featuring Flo Rida. The song cracked the Top 20 and achieved gold sales at home in Australia, after which the beach-loving Gold Coast multihyphenate was off and running. Simpson’s 2013 single “La Da Dee” tapped a similarly lackadaisical refrain, this time adopting a folky strum while he delivered his romantic message. After touring with Justin Bieber—and subsequently sharing a manager—Simpson appeared on Bieber’s 2014 acoustic single, “Home to Mama”. Following a brief foray with a backing band, he returned to quiet, intimate songwriting with 2019’s “Golden Thing”, a direct outgrowth of his relationship with Miley Cyrus at the time. But Simpson is nothing if not flexible: On his 2026 single “Baby Blue”, co-written with producer Harrison Borts, he cosies up to Daryl Hall & John Oates-style soul pop with his signature warmth and sensitivity.
