It takes just one listen to Bavarian schlager singer Roy Black's tremulous baritone to guess that he was hugely inspired by Roy Orbison. His signature style might have some Freddie Fender in it as well, and he's occasionally backed by lilting hints of Spanish rhythm. Originally a rock ‘n' roll frontman, he broke through big with a million-selling marriage song in 1967 and continued to release records until his death in 1991, often acting in musical comedies on the side. His lyrics, presenting you with roses or noting the sand in your eyes, can be as seductive as his sound.
