About Daru
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. One of my earliest musical memories is rhythm as a bodily experience, before genre or form. Movement and repetition came first, shaping how time was felt. Later, this became the basis for rhythmic, conceptual, and aesthetic choices in my work. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Black Coffee, Subconsciously Marina Lima, Virgem Tim Maia, Tim Maia 1970 Virgem inspires me with simple songs that carry desire and reflection. Tim Maia 1970 shows how music can bring people to dance together across generations. Subconsciously connects house, rhythm and ancestry as shared presence. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Breakdown” “Breakdown” is special to me because it turns the dancefloor into a space of presence. It moves from mental overload into flow, where pulse becomes guidance, listening becomes physical, and movement reconnects body and attention. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? My most memorable moment was releasing Teu Nem Aí, the first album where Daru fully took shape. It crystallized the dialogue between house structure and authorial song, bringing reflection into the body through dance, shaped by sul-Atlantic rhythms. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I want to keep expanding how house structures can be used — exploring new fusions and South Atlantic rhythms — while shaping a clear authorial identity. EPs and albums will organize this diversity into coherent musical worlds.
