He made his ECM leader debut with 1981's First Meeting, followed by Journey's End in 1983. 1986's Emergence marked his first solo bass recording. He and saxophonist Jan Garbarek released the globally acclaimed duo release Atmos in 1993. On 2003's Universal Syncopations he led an octet, and he followed with a bigger band on 2007's Universal Syncopations 2. The acclaimed Remembering Weather Report appeared in 2016. He returned to ECM for 2026's Mountain Call, with DeJohnette and saxophonist/clarinetist Michel Portal.
