With three decades and dozens of albums already under this belt, Abdul Majeed Abdullah gifted Arabic music with another emotion-charged opus straddling the line between Khaleeji and pop in Esmaany 2015. Lasting melodies, as on the opening title track and “Ya Ghayba”, recount stories of separation and nostalgia, channelling love and raw pain in the fragile notes of a flute and simmering electric guitar. But let’s not forget this incurable romantic is also an irrepressible entertainer, with smashes such as the strutting “Fezi Lah Ya Ard” seemingly destined for a packed wedding dance floor.
