About Vsevolod Zavidov

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Madrid, 2008. A warm summer dusk - linen-clad guests, a terrace humming softly. Three-year-old me slips away, plate in hand. In the corner, a tuxedoed pianist plays jazz. My mother finds me beneath the piano, listening. I ask for dessert there. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Berliner Philharmoniker, Lorin Maazel, Rachmaninov: 3 Symphonies Glenn Gould, Richard Einhorn, Recording Glenn Gould's Goldberg Variations - Track-by-Track by Producer Richard Einhorn Земфира, ЖИТЬ В ТВОЕЙ ГОЛОВЕ These three albums form the corners of my own ‘Triangle of Sadness,’ though I often gravitate toward individual tracks rather than complete records. Still, I return to Billy Joel, Chet Baker, and, inevitably, Richter and Herbert von Karajan. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “14 Romances, Op. 34: No. 14, Vocalise (Transcr. for Piano by Vsevolod Zavidov)” This music lives in two forms for me: as the crown of Russia, written by Sergei Rachmaninoff at home, and in his recording with the Philadelphia Orchestra, where it sounds like a distant gramophone—haunted, speaking of something irretrievably lost. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? That is easy! It must have been last summer’s recital I gave at the La Roque d’Antheron: a huge open air stage, 36 degrees Celsius, the burning sun and 12 Transcendental etudes ahead… Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Honestly, my ideas have always been over the top - life should be polyphonic. Lately, though, with the ‘inflation’ of recent years, both material and mental, I’m still figuring which items on my bucket list I have the resources to reach!
