As much as his success has come from experimenting with Caribbean genres like bachata and merengue, Manuel Turizo remains proudly Colombian. For Apambichao, the follow-up to his diverse 2024 full-length 201, the hitmaking artist redirects his pop stylings homeward, taking the broader pan-Latin palette along with him. Over these 15 tracks, he provides a thematic as well as sonic link between his country and those whose music he’s previously explored. He applies tropical touches to “Plo Plo Plo” and the even more dance-floor-ready “Te hacen falta dos”, with producer Ovy On the Drums bringing out the best of the singer on “Dos Luna”. To that end, his approach here seems most effective when he connects with other Colombian artists, be that música popular practitioner Luis Alfonso on “La Buena Mujer” or global superstar Maluma on the feverish title track. His Puerto Rican guests certainly don’t disappoint either, with reggaetón vet Dalmata adding some throwback flows to “Sunset en la Sanse” and Dei V bringing his sleeker style to “No me mienta así”.
