Marcy Playground frontman John Wozniak named the alt-rock trio after the yard at Marcy Open Elementary School, which he attended while growing up in Minneapolis. ∙ Released in 1997, the group’s self-titled debut album was certified Platinum. ∙ “Sex & Candy,” their downbeat smash hit, set a record when it spent 15 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart in 1997. ∙ The video for “St. Joe On the School Bus,” from their debut album, was directed by Hammer & Tongs, the creative team behind the 2005 film The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. ∙ All of the tracks on the 2010 collection Indaba Remixes From Wonderland were crowdsourced and licensed from Marcy Playground fans around the world.
