About Robbie Wessels
A multi-faceted South African singer and actor, Robbie Wessels is known for his catchy, comedic songs. He initially broke through with his viral hit "Leeuloop" off his 2006 album, Halley se Komeet. Wessels has continued to build upon his success with albums like 2009's Afrika Sonsak, 2014's Als Wat Ek Het, and 2019's Staan Saam. Born in Kroonstad, South Africa in 1980, Wessels attended Hoërskool Strand high school and later studied drama at the Tshwane University of Technology. Graduating in 2002, he embarked on his professional acting career, starring as Poena Pieterse in the television series Gauteng-alêng-alêng’. More roles followed, including 2007 spin-off film Poena is Konig and 2011's 'n Saak van Geloof. Along the way he also began pursuing a music career. In 2006, he released debut album, Halley se Komeet. Included on the album was the satirical dance track "Leeuloop," which went viral and becoming a huge hit for Wessels. He returned in 2009 with Afrika Sonsak. More albums followed, including the 2010 compilation Grootste Treffers, 2011's Kaalvoet, and 2014's Als Wat Ek Het. In 2017 Wessels released his fifth studio album, Woestyn. Another full-length, Staan Saam, arrived in 2019.
