Singer-songwriter Kushagra Thakur was exposed to live music early and attended his first big concert—a gig by Hindi-film playback and pop singer KK—when he was only six years old. Young Thakur was so enamoured by the experience and by the adulation the star received that he decided, then and there, he would become a singer himself. It wasn’t long before he got his first taste: In ninth grade, a friend shared his cover of the band Jal’s 2003 hit “Aadat” and it went viral. In the years that followed, Thakur racked up millions of streams with his covers of popular film and pop songs. In 2022 he signed with the label UR Debut (part of the management company EYP Creations) and released his debut single “Stalk”. The following year he broke through in the indie-pop scene with his original track “Dard”, from his first EP Love19. That’s before his lilting electro-pop love ballad “Finding Her” became a runaway hit, rising globally on streaming charts. By the time he turned 20 in 2025, Kushagra was not only a professional musician but also one of the highest-streamed acts in India.
