Bow Wow Wow

The pet project of Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren, Bow Wow Wow was made up of Adam Ant’s backing band, which included guitarist Matthew Ashman, bassist Leigh Gorman, and drummer David Barbarossa, along with teenage singer Anabella Lwin. Their 1981 debut introduced the band’s danceable new-wave sound, which featured primal drumming and Lwin’s distinctive vocals. Their sophomore album spawned the international single “I Want Candy” (a cover of the Strangeloves’ hit), and earned them an audience in America, but Lwin quit in 1983, after the release of the band’s third and final album, to pursue a solo career.
