In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I grew up around music all my life, but I truly fell in love with it when I moved to New Orleans. Learning from jazz musicians there shaped me into the artist I am today, and I’ve been writing songs for as long as I can remember. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Dear Carpenter” “Dear Carpenter” means a lot to me. I wrote it during a really hard season, and it’s amazing to see a song that came from a dark time offer light to others. Seeing it encourage people encourages me right back. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? People say they black out during auditions,I remember mine for The Voice. At 20, on the biggest stage I’d ever seen—exhausted, nervous, barely hearing the band—I gave it all. When John Legend turned at the last second, I knew I was meant to be there. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I’m just getting started. I dream of opening for my favorite artists, hearing my songs on vinyl, and one day playing stadiums. Most of all, I want my lyrics to reach people who feel alone and offer them hope.
