A funny thing happened when Québec indie-rock band Karkwa's 2010 album Les chemins de verre won the Polaris Music Prize for Best Canadian Album: they stopped being francophone music fans' best-kept secret. Suddenly listeners across the country were getting turned on to the band's softly swirling rock textures. Karkwa has been making waves since their 2003 debut, Le pensionnat des établis, followed two years later by Les tremblements s'immobilisent.
