D.C.-based dance mainstay James Bangura keeps things in the DMV on his scintillating and pedal-to-the-metal 2025 EP, Floorspeed 002. For the project, he recruited fellow Washington producer JR2k, who cut his teeth cooking up electrifying house and techno tracks in similar circles. Together, they create a hard-charging and breathless collection of dance-floor-ready tracks that pull from rave (Bangura is a co-founder of the Black Rave Culture crew), house, jungle and footwork. JR2k, known for his work as part of duos Rush Plus and Superabundance, in addition to his label (also named Floorspeed), brings his techno background to the forefront here, helping chop up samples that bounce around like loose pinballs and hi-hats that slosh and froth against the unrelenting pulse of bass rhythms. At four tracks and 24 minutes, Floorspeed 002 is an all-out sprint, but with so many ideas jammed into its duration, it’s a more than filling entrée.
