Asche is the musical alias of German-born Andreas Schramm, a notable figure in the country's industrial and noise subcultures. Schramm's droning, ambient work has been on display since the late '80s, when he co-founded the musical collective Ars Moriendi with, among others, his future wife Andrea Börner, who also performs under the name Morgenstern. (The pair also collaborated in the experimental electronic projects KYAM, Monokrom, and Templegarden's.) Beyond Ars Moriendi and their Fich-Art label, Asche would release his own material elsewhere, including 1994's Non-Apocalypse, 2000's Distorted Disco, 2002's Distorted DJ, and 2010's The Easter Island Phenomenon. After a long period of inactivity, Schramm re-emerged as Asche on 2019's Hedonismus, a split 12" single collaborating with Philipp Münch's the Rorschach Garden for the first time in several years.
