Clovis Nicolas

New York-city based French jazz bassist Clovis Nicolas is an in-demand performer with a style steeped in the post-bop and modern jazz traditions. Along with albums with Baptiste Trotignon and Samora Pinderhughes, he has released his own inventive small group dates, including 2014's Nine Stories, 2018's Freedom Suite Ensuite, and 2023's classical-meets-jazz outing The Contrapuntist. He also leads the Three of a Kind trio with Jon Boutellier and Michael Valeanu. With 2026's Blues in Blueprint, he explored different aspects of the blues alongside veterans Larry Goldings and Carl Allen.
