Kem’s passionate music has made him one of the most respected adult contemporary artists of the 21st century. • Born in Nashville, raised in Detroit, Kem began playing piano when he was four. After high school, he struggled with addiction and homelessness but managed to turn his life around. • Kem financed his self-released 2002 debut album, Kemistry, by waiting tables and singing in a wedding band. Motown Records signed him that same year and re-released Kemistry in 2003. • The singer hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart with his aptly titled 2005 sophomore effort, Album II. He returned to the summit of that chart with his fourth album, 2014’s Promise to Love. • He’s earned three Grammy nominations, including Best Traditional R&B Performance for 2014’s “Nobody”.
