silence outlives the earth

Alabama metalcore mavens ERRA bring a huge sound and hyper-colour visuals to silence outlives the earth, which might be their slickest and most technical album yet. J.T. Cavey (harsh vocals) and Jesse Cash (clean vocals/guitar) trade verses and choruses throughout, rotating with the band’s rapid-fire shifts from proggy chug to sky-bound melodies. “further eden” mingles spiky riffs and industrial beats with Cash’s soaring emo and Cavey’s hardcore roar. “gore of being” specialises in high-flying vocal melodies and dizzying solos while offering (perhaps) a lyrical reference to ERRA’s 2024 album, Cure: “Submit to the violence of mortality/No cure/No meaning.” The last three songs—“i: the many names of god”, “ii: in the gut of the wolf” and “iii: twilight in the reflection of dreams”—compose a trilogy in which the band’s GOJIRA, Meshuggah and Tool influences shine through.
