Lousy experience

Seriously despite the matching rate is significantly lower than Tinder’s most of the matches were just there to wait for timeout. Other than that, it has the worst UI I have ever used on any dating app. I can’t even count how many mis-swipe or accidental spotlight I’ve done. Please start looking for a better designer.
Good Intentions, Bad Execution

On installing the app, you get tons of likes but you cannot see them until you are a premium paid member. I can guarantee you all of them are not your type. Essentially, the algorithm shares your profile with the opposite member who has a high “like” button-pressing tendency. (Note: You are not a hot stuff, trust me.) So you end up paying for the premium to unlock these likes, and you are sorely disappointed. For guys, you have very limited inputs in your profile page and you are left with only your photos. (Note: If this app is women prioritised, then why are pictures the main method of attraction?) Then you have the “like” function — almost useless unless you get a direct match or assuming the person on the other side is a premium user so she can see your mugshot. You can like a non-premium user but it is nothing more than appearing as a blurred-out user on the other end. Also, as a premium user, you get the “super like” function which is downright useless. It has no functional benefit other than the “super” handle which as I mentioned, if you like a non-premium user, it is useless. (Note: Illusion of a “better chance” via “super”.) If you do get a match, you have to wait for the ladies to make the first move within 24 hours. In my experience, never has anyone made the move within that short period. Sure, you can extend, but for only so much. Let’s be frank, most on the app are inherently bad texter and don’t make the first move quickly. So why disallow the guys from making the first move if they waited for 24 hours without any response? Worst, they then get unmatched without any trace? Are encounters so superficial that if no contact is made within a day, it means they are incompatible? (Note: Better for business from Bumble’s perspective; it ensures you keep paying and spinning the roulette.) While I totally understand the effort to give the ladies more privilege in such male troll-infested space, I think the execution is unbalanced and flawed. If you are hoping for a CMB-Tinder alternative, as a guy or an unpaid user, you’ll waste your time.

I like that there are less scammers in Bumble. The profiles were more genuine compared to Tinder. But what I don’t like is that there aren’t many people in their database. It gets depressing when I see only 2-3 likes a day. No point with their ‘Spotlight’ either, cuz after each one, I get maybe 1-2 likes more. And how do I know it’s their database and not because of my profile? Cuz I subsequently went on Tinder and I got an average of 100 likes a day. (I have a paid subscription on both apps so I get to see who liked me) And their ‘Boost’ works, cuz I get an additional 30-50% likes when I use it.
Building a better profile has never been easier. Get personalized guidance on your bio, pointers on choosing your top 3 prompts, and even detailed direction on the right mix of pictures that help spark better conversations.
