Hello world,I was hearing about this app for the last 10 years and I like its branding. Im using Duolingo for half a month now and I possess the max subscription. Currently, I am finishing the first section of the French. I really love the video calls idea and I really expect they will get longer and harder as I progress. I also dont get it why everyone goes mad about that AI-first statement. Could someone factually explain whats wrong with that specific idea? If it brings new cool features, makes learning more efficient, and permits to not increase the dev cost/subscription price for prolonged time, then what the matter? I know that it is fashionable and hyped to hate AI-first companies for some mystic identity loss and a lot of others imagined reasons. But rationally, the fuss is logical when company lies/misleads about it, or just applies the AI stuff to not miss the hype-train. It is clearly not a Duo’s case. The AI is applied where it is the most needed. I accept just factual opinion, no false, ungrounded criticism and cancel-culture talks, please.Also, I have something to get mad about too, idiomatically speaking. Or just frustrated a bit. Why golden chest in the daily quest is empty? I noticed that but I just dont get it, why the last quest gets no reward. It feels very illogical. Id say it is super minor, but it would be cool if that would have been fixed. Many thanks!I still dont know if the app will really make me speak French freely, but I am really devoted to that, so, it is possible I will get with an update after I finish the French. And I really hope, I’ll text in pure French!Thank you DuoDevs, and I hope you have a great week!

Why is it not possible to pay the subscription in monthly installments?

Dear Duolingo, I love your app. It has allowed me to remember almost all I’ve learned in school and learn a lot of new stuff. I love that it’s interactive and you get to compete with others. I also love the animations in each exercise. They make learning so much fun. I got the free version of the app at first, but the commercials and the limited number of lives are annoying, so I wanted to get the payed version. But lo and behold, if you want it, you have to pay full price from the beginning even though it’s presented as sum per month. In the email you get after subscribing, you are informed that you actually have to pay the whole price. Since the full price is not entirely accessible to everyone, don’t you think more people would subscribe if you’d make it possible to pay the price in monthly installments? I just saying, you brag about being the best at teaching foreign languages. Do better for your subscribers, Duolingo. Do better!

Nice app, but beware of total waste of time

This is a very nice app/game. It will help you have a glimpse of a foreign language. And if you spend enough time (years?) even read/understand a foreign language. Make no mistake though - the focus of this app is so that you *do not* learn a foreign language to the level you will start perfecting it while speaking with foreigners. It’s focus is to keep you see ads for as long of possible. This is not a technical limitation but rather a design choice and business model. (The percent of native language to target language question is ridiculously low (max 10%) and all requests to do something about it were deflected by the team for various reasons)Start using it, then make a calculation for yourself and see how much it will take you to complete a course. Note how bad you remain at writing/formulating sentences in the target language and decide if that time is worth wasting. Compare it to the value you would get from attending language courses, or possibly other apps focused on teaching you a language efficiently even if that means letting you go at the end.It’s nice as a way to kill time though, like a mobile game, but more useful.
