That’s a nice 3 in a line game, but you don’t let me play it when there is some kind of story and chats come out.

Duskwood was o.k., once i was adjusted to the minigames, but there’s no adjusting to the minigames in Moonvale. It’s obvious that the story is far less important for the makers than trying to make money from too many minigames that, undoubtably on purpose, are too difficult to finish in one or two go’s. I played the first episode when it came out, decided to give it another go when the second episode was out for a while. So I just started and in no time came to the same conclusion. I doubt if i’ll keep the game for the third episode. Especially since you’ve got the same feedback from almost everyone, and nothing has changed.

I was a big fan of Duskwood, so I had high hopes for Moonvale; unfortunately, it didn’t live up to my expectations. Unlike Duskwood, which focused heavily on story and character development, Moonvale seems to prioritize puzzles over plot. You barely get a few lines of story before being thrown into another puzzle. On top of that, the puzzles are extremely difficult and feel nearly impossible to solve without making in-app purchases. Overall, it was a frustrating experience and a big letdown.

I’ve been an avid Duskwood fan since 2021 and remember how excited I was when I heard Everbyte was making Moonvale. Unfortunately this game feels more like a soulless cash grab than something the developers are actually passionate about. The microtransactions make it nearly impossible to enjoy the story; especially considering earning diamonds is made intentionally difficult so people will have no choice but to constantly pay money to follow the plot. I also find the use of AI bothersome. On Everbyte’s site the following statement is written about Moonvale: “All characters are portrayed by professional actors.” Well that’s a lie, three characters of the main ‘clique’ have AI profile pictures; so far there are only two professional actors. A majority of the pictures (pictures that the players have to pay diamonds for) are created using AI. The quality of the writing has also decreased significantly since Duskwood, which makes me suspect that AI has been used to at least partially write the plot. It’s just lazy, and I expected something better from the people who created Duskwood.
