Teach Old MacDonald a thing or two about farming in this fun simulation that’ll have you singing about more than just chickens, cows, pigs and sheep – after all, they’re just a tiny fraction of the agricultural adventures on offer in Hay Day.

Why it’s popular

From humble beginnings running your very own smallholding, this game rapidly puts you at the helm of a vast farming empire – guided by your first farm friend Greg, who will show you the ropes.

As your farm grows, you can adjust and design it to your liking.

A few simple crops and a chicken coop may not sound like much, but as soon as you’ve made your first harvest you can move on to bigger and better things. Wheat and eggs soon expand to take in sugar cane and soybeans, cattle and pigs, as you sell your wares to enthusiastic locals.

Your ambitions shouldn’t be limited to agriculture, either, because Hay Day really is a game where you reap what you sow. As you level up, you’ll be able to build an on-site dairy, a bakery and a mill for producing your own animal feed. Later on, even fishing and mining can become part of your thriving operation.

Getting started

If that sounds like a lot to take in, Hay Day makes multitasking surprisingly easy. Indeed, you don’t need long on the farm to realise that chickens won’t lay eggs unless they’re well-fed, or that you can’t churn butter unless you’ve already milked your cows.

Visit Greg’s farm to stock up on essentials.

You’ll quickly learn that the various tasks on your to-do list take vastly different amounts of time to complete – you can make numerous wheat harvests, for example, in the time it takes to grow one batch of sugar cane.

It’s also worth remembering that building your farm will never be a solo pursuit. A steady stream of eager townsfolk will turn up on your doorstep with food orders waiting to be fulfilled, while you can also make useful trades with your farming neighbours.

Did you know?

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has spent some time on the Hay Day farm. He became an in-game character for a week in January 2025, filling in while Greg was taking a break “on a fishing trip”.
