One of our favourite apps for learning another language, the process is genuinely fun. What’s more, all those languages and games are available for free!
Good but still missing key things

This app is a useful tool to have an insight into a new language, and after finishing the Finnish course, I miss a few important things. The grammar! I know you advertise yourself differently but a few sentences about the new grammar concepts wouldn’t hurt.Too much repetition! Repeating is important but not the way you are doing - repeating the same few sentences during an entire lesson. Variety is important as well to not get bored soon. The daily practice is a disaster! It’s not a true revision/practice! The same 2-3 sentences are - literally - repeated over and over and over and over. I lost my patience and stopped doing them. Missing new content! There is a lot I still miss in the Finnish course, and I know it’s a lot of effort, but I think you should invest into developing the courses rather than restrucuring the lessons and the achievements.
STOP the auto updates between actual updates pls!!

I’ve been playing Duolingo for years, it’s a lot of fun. But you guys, usually without a notice, change the outlook of the app overnight, and out of nowhere you add and remove/replace items, tasks, achievements. That is really annoying because I want to install new updates on my time. Just now I was finally working on completing my LAST achievement, the one where you have to complete 750 quests. I was at 724 yesterday. Once completed, I would have had ALL my achievements completed (which however COULD be a new landmark). Now I open the app, suddenly looks different, feels different, and my achievements are GONE. Changed in this case means gone. But one new achievements says I haven’t corrected 10 mistakes yet?? How?? Yet all the data with actual value are now visible again, best personal XP (I literally had to keep a daily track in my Notes app because that feature was removed in July, track your daily XP, any XP not just the record) So idk if anyone ever will read this, adding up the daily XP is still horribly inconsistent in the app but that was a previous ‘review’; so I guess it doesn’t really matter. I’m still using the app because I love the learning… and I’m hoping (unless you guys change and remove the Daily Streak feature) to reach my Day 1000 in just 30 days… Fingers crossed!
Used to be great, but not anymore

Of the 10 main menu items, 4 relates to account, subscription and monetization, 3 are quests and challenges (that I find dumb), the others are main course selection, main course itself, and a group menu including feed, account and practice(!). Yes, only 1 of the 10 serves learning purpose directly! Right now half of the visible features are not available, because I’m not in the top subscription category. The UI elements are just there, to remind me, that my family is not paying enough, although we chose annual subscription. It’s very hard to stay focused during learning sessions, due to numerous quest, social, and monetization annoyances that keep popping up. The UX really went down the slope and it gets worse with every update. The social features are forced and in your face, yet incredibly shallow, one can’t even message other learners. The learning path gets updated retroactively with material of questionable quality, I can’t go back and practice old lectures anymore without bumping into broken or low quality exercises. I don’t remember these bad quality exercises a few months ago! I have a 3 year streak of learning Spanish and having fun here but I’m considering leaving, because it’s not doing it anymore. Textbook example of enshttification, I don’t recommend it to new learners.
Our mascot owl, Duo, is trading in his usual diet of mice for bugs this week. Yup, we’re squashing those pesky bugs to make the experience better for all of you.
