more # Reset To Today
* Added a new entry in the Menu that lets you quickly change the tracked day to today.
# Bug Fixes
* In fullscreen iPad mode the description of upcoming changes for tomorrow could bleed into the main forecast data in some scenarios.
5.24 5 Feb
# Overnight Low
The overnight low is now shown as part of the main forecast. It's handy to see what the low temperature can drop to overnight. The range is 7PM on your tracked day to 7AM the following day.
# Bug Fixes
* Some headers in Settings didn't have a header trait for VoiceOver. Thanks for the heads up Hamish!
* Fixed a crash scenario that could happen in an unusual scenario with one of the shortcuts.
5.23 31 Jan
# Bug Fixes
* Some of the text that Shortcuts display wasn't translated.
* If VoiceOver verbosity was set to the default of "less verbose" then some of the VoiceOver entries for the "Sun Events" section were incorrect. Thanks for the heads up Hamish!
* The symbols in the temperature chart picker would look incorrect in dark mode.
5.22 30 Jan
Happy New Year! It’s time to celebrate with a huge release for Please Don't Rain.
# UI Refresh
The main forecast section has a fresh new look.
* Sharing the main forecast details also makes use of the new design.
# Historical Changes
There is a new section that can appear when today’s weather significantly differs from recorded averages.
* Differences that can be reported are high/low temperature, precipitation, and snowfall.
* This new section will only appear when there is a significant difference.
* You must be tracking today’s weather for this new section to appear.
* More than one historical change can be shown.
# Upcoming Changes
This is a new description that can appear in the main forecast.
* If the high and/or low temperature will have a meaning change on the day following the currently tracked day it will be described.
* This description will only appear if you’re tracking today or a day or two after it.
# Sun Events
This new section shows some of the significant sun events and how long the duration will be until the next one.
Enjoy golden hour fans!
# New Chart
The newest chart added is Cloud Cover By Altitude.
* You can view coverage for high, medium, and low altitude clouds throughout the day.
* Cloud coverage information for the current hour also appears in the main forecast if you’re viewing the hour’s forecast instead of the day’s forecast.
# Quick Temperature Change
I received a request from a user to have a way to quickly toggle back and forth between C and F.
* You can enable this under Settings, App Appearance.
* When enabled this button appears in the toolbar when viewing a forecast.
* This feature is disabled by default.
# Accessibility
* Added a verbosity accessibility setting for more control over how VoiceOver will relay large amounts of information.
* Made the alignment nicer in the Nearby Days section for large text.
* Chart RuleMarks with long text could bleed off the edge of the screen if large text was in use.
# New Languages
Support for some new language has been added.
* English (Canada)
* Dutch
# Optimization
Multiple enhancements to make the app much more efficient with how it handles data. Made the app a little snappier!
# Misc
* Several new widget themes.
# Bug Fixes
* Some weather alert buttons could look odd if the description was long and text sizes were large.
* The RuleMark for the precipitation chart would disappear if you moved your finger past the 11pm entry on the screen.
* The weather image could be too small on iPad in some scenarios.
* The medium sized version of the Basic widget could have text that was too small sometimes.
* Found some more scenarios where -0 degrees could be shown. Made them 0 degrees.
* There was no way to share charts for monthly averages.
* Days with ‘wintry mix’ would get classified as rainy days, which was especially confusing if there was little rain and a lot of snow.
# Version 5.21 Changes
* The Quick Temperature Change button didn’t notify widgets that the unit of measurement had changed so it would take them a while to update to it.
* Bug fix: VoiceOver would be incorrect in the new Sun Events section if the duration was more than an hour and the language was not English (U.S.). Thanks for the heads up Hamish!
* Added some splashes of color around the app…

# More Language Support
* Joining Spanish (Latin America) is Spanish (United States) and Spanish.
* Joining English (United States) is English (United Kingdom) and English (Australia).
# Bug Fix
* The symbol for wind could be colored incorrectly in widgets in some scenarios.
5.19 07/12/2025
# Today Improvements
There are chart improvements for when the day tracked is the current day.
* Charts will now show the current measurement without you having to look it up. Remember that you can use a long press gesture on any chart to see more details about an hour.
# New Language
Please Don't Rain now supports Italian!
# Widget Improvements
* Widgets have been changed to prefer symbols instead of words when possible. Not only does this help when supporting languages that might be more verbose, but it also allows the statistics themselves to be larger sometimes because there is more room.
* The Countdown widget wasn't very useful once the tracked day became today. Instead of just displaying "now" or "today" it will show the current temperatures if space is available. This does not apply to the circular lock screen widget (because of space reasons).
* Some large widgets will show the current condition if there is room.
* When a small widget is focusing on today's temperatures it will now better adjust to scenarios where the temperature values are taking up more space (such as when the unit is included).
* Inline lock screen widgets will show the current temperature when space is available if the high and low temperatures were already being shown.
## Widget Accessibility
There were many accessibility improvements made to widgets.
* More things are intelligently grouped together.
* The basic widget had way too many individual items with VoiceOver because of how it was structured. Visually it will look exactly the same, but the underlying code was rewritten to operate better with VoiceOver.
* The ‘Next Hour’ and ‘Next and Last’ widgets did not do a good time of indicating when a date was in the future. It was only done in the hints, which would be confusing if the user had VoiceOver hints turned off.
* The VoiceOver text for the ‘Next and Last’ widget much more clearly indicates what state the widget is in (showing the next precipitation or last precipitation).
# Bug Fixes
Currently the weather service can reporting that there is some precipitation for the day when there actually isn’t, which produced some confusing output. Many changes were made to address this.

# Manage Your Creations
Made some improvements to the section where you can manage weather images you’ve created (requires Apple Intelligence).
* All of the weather categories are now in collapsable groups that are closed by default. This will make finding the category you want much easier when you have a lot of creations.
* Your creations are now shown newest first, which also should make things easier to find when you have a lot of creations.
# Misc
More UI updates to look nice with Liquid Glass.
5.16 15/10/2025
# Weather Images
I've made the decision to only ship Please Don't Rain with weather images that people have drawn for me and a tiny number of images from Image Playground. Doing so let me drastically reduce the size of the app. In fact, it’s almost half the size with over 50MB saved.
You can still create an unlimited amount of weather images in the app with Image Playground.
Thank you for your understanding!
# New Theme
The newest theme drawn by my sister is Fishbowl.
# App Icons
Several new alternate app icons are now available.
# Bug Fixes
* With iOS 26 if you tried to share the “Nearby Days” section the column headers would not appear in the shared image.
5.15 30/09/2025
It’s time for the big fall update for the new version of iOS!
# Liquid Glass support
Support for Liquid Glass for iOS 26 users along with many UI Improvements.
# New charts
Two new charts to help keep an eye on your special day.
* Humidity
* Pressure
# New languages
Support for new languages!
* Swedish
* Chinese (Simplified)
* Korean
* Japanese
* French
* Spanish (Latin America)
# Endless Mode
I wrote Please Don't Rain to keep track of an upcoming day that was important to you, but several people have expressed to me that they enjoy using it for tracking the current day. Instead of having to pick the current day every day there’s now an option called Endless Mode that is under Settings, General. When it is turned on the current day will be tracked when the previously specified day expires.
* Version 5.14 adds Customer Center to Settings.

5.13 15/09/2025
# Bug Fixes
This release focuses on improving charts when there is an extremely small amount of rain forecast for the day. For example, 0.0006” of rain for a particular hour.
* The chart axis labels for amount of rain could all be zero, which was very confusing. More significant digits are allowed now to prevent this from happening.
* The amount of rain for each individual hour in the RuleMark that appears when you perform a long press gesture on a chart could be confusing for the same reason.
5.12 14/07/2025
Remember when I said that I wouldn’t be doing more releases until the fall? Never mind!
# Accessibility
* Smart Invert – Colors for weather images shouldn’t have been inverted when Smart Invert was turned on.
* The VoiceOver interaction with the favorites button was a little confusing. Thanks to Hamish for pointing this out.
* Shortened some VoiceOver labels used for dealing with saved favorites. Thanks to Hamish for the suggestion.
* Improved the contrast of chart labels when in dark mode. This required some manual changes to how they display time zone and unit of measurement information. This change should be transparent but please let me know if you see any strange behavior.
* Improvements to some interfaces for when Increase Contrast is turned on at the system level.
# Bug Fixes
* Example widgets were using wording that was too long in German, which made the text very small.
* When used in landscape mode the iPhone’s Dynamic Island could obscure part of the UI to enter a date / place.
* If a third party font was in use the standard font would be used instead when entering a nickname for a favorite location.
5.11 30/06/2025
This is the last big release for several months. I’ll be spending the summer adding all the new goodies announced at WWDC for the next release of iOS.
# Main Forecast Sharing Improvements
* You now have the ability to exclude extra forecast details when sharing. If the more data / less data button is currently hiding extra forecast details then they will not be included when sharing.
* Bug fix: Not all forecast details were included when sharing.
* Bug fix: If a nickname was in use it wasn’t shown when sharing.
# New Font
* Open Sans Font – I saw Open Sans included on a list of dyslexia-friendly fonts so I added support for it.
# Accessibility
* VoiceOver was only speaking the average high temperature for each month from the monthly temperature chart. It now also speaks the average low temperature.
# Bug Fixes
* Locations with intense cold can sometimes not have any UV Index data to report. When that happens a message is displayed explaining this. This message wasn’t shown when you were viewing another day from the Nearby Days section with a tap gesture.
* The unit of length wasn’t being displayed on the precipitation chart widget.
* The unit of length on the monthly precipitation charts wasn’t displayed properly.
* The legend wasn’t shown on the monthly temperature chart.
* The previous fix to properly align the Y axis label marks to charts wasn’t made to the monthly temperature chart.
# Maintenance
* Switched the rainfall and snowfall amount data source to a newer internal source. This change should be unnoticeable.
* Reduced the app size a little.
* Did a lot of spring cleaning to get ready for the next version of iOS that will be announced soon. This shouldn’t affect any functionality but please let me know if you see anything strange.
5.10 14/06/2025
# Accessibility
Happy Global Accessibility Awareness Day!
The precipitation charts didn’t have a way to distinguish between categories other than with colors. That’s no longer the case.
* There is a new section in Settings, Accessibility that makes bar charts have a way to differentiate without color.
* This setting is off by default.
* When enabled a different shape for each precipitation category will appear above each bar in the precipitation charts.
# Bug Fixes
* The line mark that indicates the current hour on a chart for the current day wouldn’t appear if the tracked location’s time zone didn’t use whole hour increments for their offset from UTC.
5.9 21/05/2025
# Bug Fixes
* If accessibility text sizes were in use then long wind descriptions in the wind chart popover could get cut off.
* Some buttons missed out on the styling changes from last release.
5.8 08/05/2025
# UI Improvements
* Several buttons got some styling to make them look nicer.
* More changes to make the UI adjust better when iPad Slide Over mode is in use.
# Bug Fixes
* Don’t launch a sheet from the Nearby Days section if the day that was tapped was the currently tracked day. Its details are already being shown.
* The popover for the monthly temperature chart could have some words that were cut off when accessibility fonts were in use.
* Some of the popovers for monthly charts weren’t using accessibility fonts.
* The UV Chart description would always say “today” even when today wasn’t the tracked day.
5.7 22/04/2025
# Accessibility Font Support
I’m so excited to announce that Please Don't Rain now supports three different accessibility fonts!
The supported fonts are OpenDyslexic, Lexend, and Atkinson Hyperlegible.
* OpenDyslexic (by Abbie Gonzalez) is a typeface designed against some common symptoms of dyslexia.
* Lexend (by Bonnie Shaver-Troup, EdD) is intended to reduce visual stress as well as "improve retention and comprehension".
* Atkinson Hyperlegible (by Braille Institute) is "designed to improve legibility and readability for individuals with low vision".
Any of these can be enabled under Settings, Accessibility and their license info can be found under Settings, Licenses.
Huge thanks to Klemens Strasser for inspiring and helping me with this effort.
# Misc
* Significant improvements to how the app adjusts its content when used on an iPad in Slide Over mode.
* Added a wind type description to the popover in the Wind chart. Perform a long press gesture on any chart to view a popover.
* Added more data to the Data Table of several charts.
* Added a “Content Unavailable” View for places such as Antarctica that can have days where there are no UVIndex values above zero.
* The weather service sometimes returns tiny amounts of hourly precipitation for days that are marked as not having any precipitation. These are now filtered out of the “Hourly Forecast” section.
5.6 06/04/2025
# Two Year Birthday
It’s been two years since the launch of Please Don't Rain. Thank you for supporting the app!
# Visibility Chart
Dealing with heavy fog recently made me realize that a visibility chart was much needed.
* The existing UV Index chart, wind chart, and new visibility chart have been combined into a single section that displays one of those charts.
* The picker labeled “Pick A Chart” lets you choose which one to display.
# Artwork In Shared Forecast Details
* When you share the main forecast details the appropriate artwork for the particular weather type is also include in the shared image.
* If you’d rather not include artwork there is a setting under “Widgets/Sharing” to disable this new behavior.
* Thanks to Tyler Hillsman for this idea.
# Misc
* Lots of internal changes to how units of measurement are handled BUT you shouldn’t notice a difference. Please let me know of any unexpected behavior.
* Added buttons to quickly change between imperial and metric units in Settings. There’s also a chaos (random) button for those of you that live a life with no rules.
* More improvements to the Nearby Days section to try and adjust to show as much data as possible on days with precipitation.
# Bug fixes
* When sharing the main forecast details the data in the image could be misaligned on some days with precipitation.
* Addressed a scenario where widgets could sometimes get stuck in demo mode after a subscription was renewed.
5.5 12/03/2025
# High and Low Temperature Times
Apple Weather now returns the times for when the high and low temperatures will happen.
* The times will appear in the main forecast section. Note: The high for today could be listed as midnight TOMORROW. Therefore the day will be indicated if the time is 12AM since that could refer to the beginning of the day or the very end.
* The app doesn't have to calculate them for charts any more, which should speed things up a little.
* The point marks that indicate high and low temperatures on the temperature chart aren't limited to the top of the hour any more.
# Accessibility
* There was a VoiceOver bug introduced fairly recently. If accessibility text sizes were in use then VoiceOver wouldn’t read the most important forecast statistics, such as high and low temperatures.
* If accessibility text sizes were in use then the weather image would actually be smaller than when smaller text was in use. A bigger image that will be easier to see is now used.
# Chart Improvements
* Addressed an axis alignment issue that could occur in some of the charts.
* Made the chart axis labels better adjust to scenarios where there is limited space, such as an iPad in Slide Over.
# Misc
* Made some internal optimizations that make the app much more efficient at launch and when changing days.
5.4 16/02/2025
# Nearby Days Improvements
The Nearby Days section got a lot of attention this release!
* If the app was running in a situation with a smaller amount of space, an iPad in Slide Over mode for example, then only the percent chance of precipitation was shown. The logic for displaying the Nearby Days section has been improved. There are many scenarios now where an amount of precipitation will also be shown.
* Added a share button to this section.
# Misc
* Added link to the app’s Bluesky account.
* Added an Easter Egg for an upcoming pizza themed Swift conference in the Windy City. Can you find it?
# Bug Fixes
* If the day to track was too far in the future for a forecast the image displayed was always an AI generated image, even if Settings indicated those weren’t allowed.
5.3 03/02/2025
# New Theme
The latest theme drawn by my sister is Butterflies.
# UI Improvements
* Changed the weather symbols shown in the popover when you long press on an entry in the temperature or precipitation charts. They’re now in color.
* Improved how some weather symbols look in light mode.
# Super Serious Mode Improvements
* Made the large weather symbol displayed look visually the same as weather symbols in other sections.
* Improvements to how the user interface is displayed in full screen mode on iPad.
5.2 06/01/2025
# Image Creation (requires Apple Intelligence)
It’s one of the biggest additions to Please Don't Rain yet. You can now create your own weather images! After you’ve installed the Image Playground app (where available) Please Don't Rain will gain the ability to create images.
* Go to Settings, Change Weather Images to find the link to create an image.
* You can enter an optional concept and after you press the “Create Image” button you can add more concepts and/or select a photo from your photo library (via the plus button).
* Before you finalize an image you can enter an optional description for VoiceOver to read.
* After an image is finalized under “Manage Your Creations” you can edit an image’s weather condition and/or VoiceOver description.
# New Random Options
Did you end up making too many weather images and now you can’t decide which ones to choose? Now you don’t have to!
Under Settings, Weather Image Details, Random Images there are new options if “Random” is turned on.
* Hours Between Updates - Lets you control how often random images change.
* Only Use Images You’ve Made – Forces random to only pick from weather images you created.
## Version 5.1
* Bug Fix: If Dark Mode was in use when creating an image then the weather symbols on the Picker used for selecting a weather condition would always be blue. Now they have the appropriate color(s).
* On days where there is no precipitation the section that has the precipitation chart shows the weather symbol that represents the day's weather along with a message instead of a chart. The symbol is now in color instead of being gray.
