I am very happy with the platform Turo to rent a car. It provides a variety of cars, especially those which are impossible to rent from the usual car hire companies. The process of checking and checkout is well established and easy to use and protects the host as well as the client from any damage. I haven't used and experienced the process if something goes wrong (accident, damage), so cannot comment. The quality of the car and service will very much depend on the host. But the rating system of the Turo platform should uncover if the service is below the highest quality. The same applies to the client.

After taking payment I had to verify my email then had to photograph both sides of my license and take a selfie of me holding my licence. Then I had to verify my phone by text message. My eSIM didn’t allow texts so I spent three hours going over the issues with the Turo help line that couldn’t help. I contacted the car owner who tried and unbelievably couldn’t get the booking confirmed so she drove 20 minutes to my hotel and used a personal telephone number she had and went through the whole booking process again until the booking was confirmed by verifying her number. Without her the booking would have been cancelled and there is no warning of this until after payment has been taken. Got a great car and a great host but the app is useless. Next time I’d pay the extra to rent from Avis. Apart from this I received countless emails throughout the rental asking for the same photos already submitted and after the return more emails telling me I was late to return and in violation of the contract. I contacted the owner who explained it was normal for the app and I should ignore it. The app is a great idea very poorly executed and dreadfully managed.

Horrible Customer Service and Dishonest Policies. I am absolutely appalled by the treatment I’ve received from Turo. After a roadside incident during my trip, I reached out expecting the bare minimum of customer support. Instead, I was told the issue was my liability, and they refused to reimburse me for onward travel or refund my reservation. Here’s the truth: Turo does not follow traditional insurance policies—they hide behind vague terms and conveniently shift all responsibility onto their customers. If you’re going to operate with non-standard policies, you should make that explicitly clear instead of leaving customers to discover it the hard way. This isn’t “non-traditional”—this is HOW TO SCAM PEOPLE. Turo completely disregards its users and cares only about avoiding liability. There is ZERO accountability, ZERO support, and absolutely NO care for customers when things go wrong. If you’re considering using Turo, don’t. Save yourself the headache, stress, and financial loss. I will never use Turo again, and I will make sure others know exactly how they operate. This company is dishonest, irresponsible, and unworthy of anyone’s trust. Avoid Turo at all costs.

Last year I had the best experience from turo, the good and the bad. I rented 2 sports cars and they were more than what I expected. Seamless communication with the hosts, affordability, the experience of a lifetime in those cars, easy handoff, etc., both host got the best reviews from me. then had a bad car, which wasn’t as described by the host, upon pick up had bad brakes, rattles, broken components, the lot. The host was still communicative, I brought these issues to turo, and received a refund. Honestly, the best experience as a guest in a digital world. I was planning rent again and realized there are far less of a selection now. On top of that change I noticed there’s no description of the cars from hosts which takes away some of the connection between hosts and guests, we want to know what we’re renting. And the pricing, there’s a huge gap. Whatever that has happened to this platform needs to have a look back at what made it big and listen to the users.
