Skip to TLDR down bottom if u wantI’ve been playing MTG Arena on PC since WotS which wasnt too long ago. From what I’ve experienced in my 5 hours or so on the mobile port, it is a good way to pass time on long commutes or during long breaks at work. The port has successfully (on my device) carried over from PC to mobile and I have yet to experience any game breaking bugs (just some visual delays every now and then). Whilst people are complaining about how this is ‘Pay to Win’ I believe it is a weak argument in and of itself as even with the physical cards, you would either have to find the card you want on ebay and pay a huge markup, or just randomly open boosters in the hope u get the card u want. What I love abt the digital version is that when u do open packs, u also have the chance of obtaining wildcards AND EARN PROGRESSION TO A WILDCARD which can then let u gain a card of that rarity. Honestly, to call this game ‘pay to win’ just shows how lacking one is to strategem as there are also daily quests which provide (a generous amount of) exp and gold which can be used to purchase the randomised card packs. Furthermore, u are also rewarded for winning a certain amt of games which also give generous rewards. TLDR:I do not recommend this game (or MTG in general) if you just want to ‘cruise along’. The game requires critical thinking and thus expect that other players will often outmatch u very early. It is a nice mobile port with limited bugs. If u have 30min-1hr breaks in ur day, this game is good for passing that time
Don’t bother on tablet

Get ready to have your tablet crash like it’s never crashed before. Do you like having to hard reset your device every 20 minutes, do you like having half the playability of pc players and a quarter of the aesthetic. Get ready for Magic! A game that can’t actually deliver on base promises, like still receiving daily rewards that you can’t legally use in the current rotation a month after announcing otherwise, it’s awesome. I spent 2 hours grinding to 15 wins to receive an illegal rare. Spend your money on cosmetics that will actively contribute to the memory drain on your device so you can crash every time a card is played. Like immersive audio? Well get stuffed, because the sound bites it plays during actions are going to brick your device as well! Welcome to hardcore strategy where everyone plays the same flipping cleric deck and you’ve got no choice but to follow suit because the sets have been cut down so heavily from the physical card sets there is literally 5 meta decks and that’s it! Welcome to Magic the gathering: Arena! Literally do not download, play it on PC, it’s soooo much better.
An awesome option for Digital Magic!

Core gameplay is excellent and the digital format is more free-to-play friendly than printed versions, so if you want to enjoy magic, but don’t want to spend much, I encourage you to try it out.Daily quests keep the game engaging and the in-game events are really fun. Particularly the ones that allow you to merge 2 random decks. The only downside that I have encountered is performance when numerous effects are in place. At a certain point the game simply becomes impossible to interact with because of issues such as extremely low fps and lag, forcing you to concede and return to the menu. I’d hope this gets resolved in the future as it can be quite annoying, especially with the enormous amount of tokens that can be generated.Another thing that could be improved upon is the UI interaction with some abilities and cards, for example Halvar. With this card you must still select an equipment and creature before you can choose to not use the ability. This type of interaction is very tedious and unnecessary. I’d appreciate if we could choose to bypass the abilities before having to choose targets first.Overall a very enjoyable game and alternative to printed magic.
Sadly dissatisfying

This game is well made, beautiful all round and plays well. As an MTG fan, I immediately felt that this digital version of the game would be great, and at first it lives up to the expectation. But it’s often very dissatisfying. It seems like there is no system for balancing player matchups: Many times I’ve been put against players with advanced and powerful (premium) decks, full of legendary creatures and powerful spells. They absolutely wipe the floor with me in just a few turns. I’m playing with the decks you start out with, while their decks feature creatures that are much stronger, cheaper to play and have additional abilities that are sometimes so overpowered, a single creature played means the end of the game. It’s not very much fun to play when there is genuinely no way to win. I’m surprised that there isn’t a card value system in place, where each card has an accompanying value according to its capabilities, and players are matched by their overall deck scores, or something similar. The aspect I always appreciated most about mtg was that it’s usually pretty even, and tactical play becomes a necessity. That doesn’t seem to be the case in this app, and it sadly makes for a really annoying experience a lot of the time.I’ll keep playing for now, unlocking stuff and seeing how it goes, but I’m worried this will just keep happening unless I pay for the best cards - and pay to win isn’t really my thing.
