Fun but not easy against higher rated opponents

This game is fun but would like to be playing against people who are around the same level or has played the same amount of games, not double or triple the amount of experience, bit unfair at times with them having way better clubs and advantages. I would also like to see the person furthest from the hole take the next shot instead of taking it in turns and your opponent copying your every move. Lastly I would also like to be able to pick from all my clubs won for different holes instead of just 2 from each category. This here alone would make me give this game a 5 star rating. Thank you:-)

Golf clash is 100 times better

Stop now, go to Golf Clash and try that first before even considering this game. This game is an absolute copy of Golf Clash but the gameplay is worse. In Golf Clash every club has the ability to have top spin, back spin, slice curve or hook curve. In Golf Rival only certain clubs have this ability. When you tie a hole in both games you have a shootout where the ball that lands closest to the hole wins. In Golf Clash it is always on a par 3 so you are regularly seeing the winner finish close to the hole. In this game most shootouts are won by hitting the ball down a fairway - as most shootout holes are not par 3s or there is a massive obstacle (such as a bridge or tree) in the way - so the winner is often 80 yards plus away from the hole!! The graphics in this game are poor quality compared to Golf Clash - the trees, grass, rocks, buildings- have poor detail. The way the ball rolls on the green is not even close to the real thing in this game, whereas Golf Clash is much more realistic.I downloaded this game because I liked the look of the multiplayer game where you hit off buildings into a bowl shaped bullseye green, but this is only available if you play against your own friends online.Honestly I don’t know how this game survives given how it’s a blatant rip off. Either way don’t download until you’ve tried Golf Clash

Poor value for money

I’ve played both Golf Rival and Golf Clash. The latter is way superior in terms of gameplay; especially in the nuance of shot creation. And, unlike Golf Rival, matches can be won or lost on the putting green (once you are on the green in Golf Rival, it’s almost impossible to miss the put). However, Golf Clash makes you wait for the really good clubs; whereas, you can get good clubs very early in Golf Rival. This to my mind, made Golf Rival the better game in terms of value for money. I spent money on gems and coins but initially got good cards and upgrades in return. Recently, however, I feel totally ripped off. I spent (embarrassingly) $688 in under six weeks on reward deals, challenge passes and seasonal passes and gems. All of which got me bonus prizes (chests) from tournaments and competitions. But time and time again, I am getting absolutely rubbish cards. Golf Rival state the allocation of cards in chests is random. Yet whenever I am offered lucky deals (buying cards with gems to upgrade my clubs - at an extortionate rate!), it is always for the clubs that I have in my bag. If I am in effect paying real money for rewards, the rewards should contain cards of value - not be randomly allocated with a consequently small chance of actually getting the cards I want. It is just a way of trying to get yet more money out of its customers and hiding behind a feeble excuse. If I wanted to play a game of chance, I’d play the slots. Just to add salt to the wound, when I emailed Golf Rival to complain, they emailed back to tell me the game is a work in progress and that they would consider my suggestions for future updates!! I’ve got a suggestion for you...., but I think this review would get removed were I to voice my suggestion. So I’ll just remove Golf Rival from my phone and take my money elsewhere.

Massively flawed

It’s as easy to sink a 100-footer from the edge of an undulating green as it is a gimme teetering on the edge of the cup. Chipping in is an absurdly common occurrence in this game. The use of saved profiles as opponents is unfairly balanced against you. Only people who won their holes usually get to finish the hole so you’re only playing past winners. Because of the ease of finishing a hole, once you’re past the lower levels almost every hole concludes with one player chipping in, or more often a nearest the pin decider. This is so common it would not be an exaggeration to suggest you do away with most of the game and replace it with a nearest the pin contest. The wind is totally inconsistent, your opponent will have a gentle 4km tailwind and you’ll get a 10km headwind. Both players should have roughly the same conditions. The punishment for spakking a ball into the rough or bunker seems irrelevant as the player landing neatly on the fairway will get to the green in no fewer shots normally. Worst of all, looking at the comments people have been leaving for years, the developers have no interest in changing any of this, in fact these shortcomings appear intentional, aimed solely at encouraging people to spend money on upgrades in order to level the field. This whole game is nothing more than a cynical arms race.
