I have been playing FOE for a few months now, and have generally enjoyed the experience up until now. As with most civilisation type games, it takes a while to get going, and a while to understand all the elements. FOE is less competitive than any of the mmo civilisation games I have played previously. Game play is always at the individuals level, so you are not constantly being attacked, farmed or robbed of your resources. The flip side of this is that the game is a little less social. You do not need to pay money for diamonds as they are available in the game play as rewards, however the temptation is very strong early in the game and this is when they are most useful. Once you have leveled up 3 ages, the temptation is gone.My main concern with the game is the insertion of advertising which has become quite intrusive. You are essentially being trapped into watching it, and are forced to interact with it to get it off the screen. There are nearly a dozen different triggers for the advertising and some are hard to avoid. It feels like an experiment gone wrong, and if it was there when I first started playing the game, I would have pulled out. I will see how it goes over the next few weeks, but am likely to move on if it continues.
