A great aid for bush walking

As long as you always remember, that using All Trails is only useful whilst your phone is functioning, then your good to go.My advice would be to always take a battery reserve. I learnt that the first time I used it. I also learnt that the “Navigate” feature, which drains your battery, is mostly not necessary. You can always see your location, compared to the highlighted route that you’ve downloaded in advance, and use offline. You won’t get alerts if your off course, but If in doubt, check the route before straying too far off course. Just use common sense. If I was to do a multi day remote walk, with no signage, I’d want a map and compass as well.Despite these pre conditions, I love using this App. I think it’s value for money, and a great tool. If nothing else, it’s good to have reassurance that your still on route…. and if not, ( and that happens occasionaly to me, cause I chose not to use “Navigate”) it’s easy to use the map to re find the correct course.
Best trail app ever!

The AllTrails app is a fantastic tool for outdoor enthusiasts. It offers a comprehensive database of hiking, running, and biking trails, making it easy to find the perfect adventure for any skill level. The app provides detailed trail maps, including elevation gain, difficulty level, and user reviews, helping users plan their outdoor activities with confidence. One of the standout features of the AllTrails app is its offline map capability. This means that even if you're in an area with no cell service, you can still access trail maps and navigate through your chosen route. This is especially useful for remote wilderness areas or when traveling to unfamiliar locations. The app also allows users to track their progress and record their hikes, runs, or bike rides. This feature is great for setting personal goals and keeping a log of your outdoor activities. Additionally, you can easily share your adventures with friends and fellow outdoor enthusiasts via social media platforms. The AllTrails community is another highlight of the app. Users can leave reviews, photos, and tips for specific trails, which can be incredibly helpful when planning your next outing. Seeing others' experiences and recommendations adds an extra layer of confidence and excitement to your outdoor adventures.Overall, the AllTrails app is a must-have for anyone who loves to explore the great outdoors. Its user-friendly interface, extensive trail database, offline map capability, and active community make it an invaluable tool for planning and enjoying outdoor activities.
Incredibly useful - definitely a keeper

Love love love this app! It’s probably the only walking app you really need. And you can use if for so much more than you initially think. I use it mainly as we are traveling around Australia to find any nice close-by track to walk the dogs but also to explore the area. The search function is a little hit and miss with ‘nearby’ being a rather generous description often. But it is still useful to get descriptions of various trails plus you can see what others say or add. The National Park Guides at this stage seem quite US focused as well. Instead of any of that, I usually just click on the map symbol and it will show you any nearby track. Or you can just use it anywhere to track your own activity - be it a walk, cycle, canoe or snowshoe trip - with a pretty good topographic map. It also sends you handy alerts if you ever accidentally veer off a chosen path. I certainly love the peace of mind that I can always check my position, how much of the track I have done and how much further to go. The app even contains a handy ‘lifeline’ feature where you can share your activity with contacts in case something goes wrong and you have to be found. You’re able to access the activities you have tracked or your reviews with photos as a history under your profile which is nice. It would be great if you could search them somehow by area etc. The only negatives are that the user xp is occasionally a little unintuitive at first although I have noticed some improvements over time. I would love to be able to go back to edit my stored trail data, for instance if I forgot to turn off the tracking when I finished the trail. But in comparison to what I get out of the app, these are peanuts. I don’t subscribe to many apps. But this one is a keeper!
